We Remember Them

November 9, 2023

Our 2023 Memorial Service, held on November 9, offered an opportunity to remember and honor the 12 members of our personal care community who left us this year. It also provided much-needed closure for our Residents and staff members who, along with the families of the departed, feel the lingering loss of those with whom they lived and cared for each day.

Sister Pat Mahoney, a member of the School Sisters of St. Francis leadership team, led the service, accompanied by Sister Lorita Kristufek (music minister) and Karen Vevers (activities director), with readings by Dana Funk (Resident) and Irene Oesterle (caregiver). Family members were on hand to carry candles in silent procession in memory of 11 Residents and one former employee who died in 2023.

Prayerfully remembered during the service were former Residents Dorothy Barthel, Theresa Cammarata, Lillian Chlibun, Teresa Cortese, Sister Rosalia Giba, Dee Hartle, Frieda Hayson, Joe Hepburn, Marge Plutko, Mary Pusateri and Travis Tadlock, as well as former longtime employee Norene Pickens. Staff members Joanne Osborn, Carolyn Klingensmith, Carolee Mandernach and Diane Clifford also served as candlebearers.

The family of Dorothy Barthel offers its gratitude to Sister Barbara Ann Lengvarsky, who often visited with Dorothy during her time at Mt. Assisi Place.

As readers Dana Funk, Karen Vevers and Irene Oesterle await, Sisters Lorita Kristufek and Pat Mahoney lead the gathering in a prayerful response.
