Ice Cream Cone Day
Did you know that September 22 is Ice Cream Cone Day? To celebrate, our Residents will enjoy ice cream cones as a featured dessert during the lunchtime meal. Choose from vanilla, chocolate, or butter pecan. Free ice cream cones also will be available to our on-shift employees and volunteers from 12 to 1 p.m.

Residents will have an opportunity to select new reading and listening material, courtesy of a visit from the Allegheny County Bookmobile, which will be onsite in the Marian Hall third-floor lounge at 11 a.m.

September Birthday Party & Oktoberfest Celebration
Our September Birthday Party will evoke the sights, sounds and flavors of Oktoberfest, as we enjoy ethnic music and a special menu of German-inspired food — including a pig roast — prepared by John Marshall Catering. All the fun will take place in the dining room during lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Patriot Day & 9/11 Remembrance
Everyone remembers where they were on September 11, 2001. Now, each year we remember all those impacted by the tragic events of that day. Residents, employees and family members are encouraged to join us in honoring all those lost by wearing red, white and blue on Patriot Day, which is observed on Wednesday, September 11.

September Crafts Workshop
Jean Armany, daughter-in-law, of former Resident Alice Armany, will guide our Residents in making a special seasonal crafts project. We will gather at the right side of the Main Dining Room beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 7. All supplies will be provided.

Residents interested in writing, reading and listening to poetry can join “The Poetry Man” John Conte in the dining room (right side) for a time of creative sharing. The group usually meets on the first Friday of each month.

Steelers Spirit Pep Rally
As the Steelers get ready to kick off their 2025 football season, we’ll kick off our Steelers Spirit Weekend with a lunchtime pep rally filled with music, trivia and treats. Residents, employees and visitors are encouraged to show their spirit by wearing black and gold gear all weekend long.

Phil Lamperski
Phil Lamperski — a musician and music professor — will visit Mt. Assisi Place to play and chat about folk music with our Residents. We will gather at 6 p.m. in the Marian Hall 3rd-Floor Lounge. Please join us.

Banana Split Day
Did you know that August 25 is Banana Split Day? To celebrate, our Residents will be treated to mini banana splits as a special featured dessert during the lunchtime meal. Mini banana splits also will be available to employees for $1 from 12 to 1 p.m.

Wellness Clinic
Each month, our Residents can take part in an onsite Wellness Clinic, during which their blood pressure, weight, gait and posture are evaluated.

Wii Bowling in Marian Hall
Things get pretty competitive when we gather in the Marian Hall Second-Floor Lounge each Wednesday afternoon for Wii Bowling. Residents use a motion-activated controller to play virtual games of bowling on our Wii video game system. Not only do we have a blast, but it’s also good exercise!

August Birthday Party
We’ll keep the good times rolling by celebrating with our August birthdays over lunch (11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.) on Friday, August 15, in the Main Dining Room. This month will feature live steel drum music.

Hawaiian Shirt Weekend
Did you know that August 16 is Hawaiian Shirt Day? Therefore, we’re encouraging employees to wear their Hawaiian shirts to work for any shift from Friday through Sunday, August 15-17. Residents and visitors are welcome to get in on the fun, too, and add some colorful summer fun to the weekend.

Summer Serenade
With the popularity of Sam Rice’s weekly Classical Music Appreciation sessions, he has added a special offering for summer. In these weekly Summer Serenade gatherings, Sam will share more mellow, impressionistic classical pieces. The music is both relaxing and nurturing for the brain. Please join us on Wednesday evenings in the Marian Hall 3rd-Floor Lounge.

Pray & Picnic in the Park
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish will bring its Pray & Picnic in the Park summer worship series to our grounds on Wednesday, August 6. Residents, employees and families are welcome to join members of the parish community for an outdoor Catholic Mass beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a picnic-style meal. Mass will be celebrated by Father John Rushofsky, pastor.
The gathering will take place behind our complex in the area outside our main dining room. Some chairs will be provided, but family members are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. In the event of bad weather, the event will move indoors. So that the parish may plan accordingly, please RSVP to the MAP Reception Desk by Friday, August 1.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish includes Saint Athanasius, Saint Sebastian, Incarnation of the Lord, and Saint Teresa of Avila churches.

Root Beer Float Day
Did you know that August 6 is Root Beer Float Day? To celebrate, our Residents will be treated to delicious root beer floats as a special featured dessert during the dinnertime meal. Floats also will be available to employees for $1 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
